Cross-sectoral nature of European youth policy

Youth policy is seen as a cross-sectoral field of action in Germany (Hofmann-van de Poll 2022) and Europe (Nico et al. 2017). Due to the fact that young people are affected by decisions in all policy fields, youth policy should not only be understood as policy within the framework of child and youth welfare (or at the European level of the youth sector), but as policy exercised by different actors from different sectors. The research of AeJP revolves around an exploration of which opportunities and challenges emerge from this understanding of youth policy for cross-sectoral cooperation, and which strategies, structures and negotiation processes are used for cross-sectoral policy making.
