The handbook “Kindeswohlgefährdung nach § 1666 BGB und Allgemeiner Sozialer Dienst (Children at risk as defined by article 1666 BGB and General Social Service)“ draws together existing research, practice wisdom and an analysis of the organisational and juridical context of child protection work in Germany. The topics treated in the handbook were selected together with fort-line workers and experts from the field. According to the American “Handbook of Child Protection” contributions in the handbook are short and easy to access. They were written in collaboration with experienced social workers and external experts. The review of existing research included systematic searches in international literature data bases and the use of meta-analytic techniques. Moreover the expertise of researches with reputation in the field as well as a collection of questionnaire data, document analysis and group discussion were used as research methods.
