Learning Stories

During the first stage of the project “Learning Stories” (01.02.2004 31.01.2007), materials were developed which were then used by trainers and educational specialists with the purpose of introducing and implementing methods in order to observe and document children’s learning processes.
The aim of the second stage of the project is to ensure the further development, quality assurance and dissemination of the “Learning Stories”. By means of establishing a specialist office, long-term effects of the project will be guaranteed. Information about the implementation procedures and conditions will be made available to interested parties. Furthermore, a network of disseminators will be established and monitored.
At the office in Munich of the German Youth Institute (DJI), the emphasis will be, on the one hand, on the further development of “Learning Stories” with regard to the child's transition from kindergarden to elementary school as well as on the diffusion of these methods in order to include day care and after-school care centers. Beyond that, the approach shall be introduced to specialist educational staff in training centers. On the other hand, quality assurance and public relations will be at issue in Munich. The work at this location is funded by the Federal Ministry for Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
At the office in Halle of the German Youth Institute (DJI), the further development of “Learning Stories” focuses on the description of children's developmental stages, starting from their observable abilities and individual strengths. A further objective is the conceptual development of procedures regarding children with special needs. This part of the project is supported by the foundation “Aktion Mensch”.
