The research field involving pilot projects and scientific studies on the topics of day care centres and family day care has previously been confusing and difficult to grasp for practitioners, politicians and researchers.
The ProKiTa database systematically presents the research results in the field of day care for children. On this basis, new findings on common factors and differences in the research results can be made possible, gaps in the research can be identified, and new projects can be stimulated. In addition to the presentation of the projects, cross-sectional analyses of selected topics in the database are available, which provide an overview of the research landscape.
The database includes completed and continuing projects conducted in the German-speaking countries since January 1998 with scientific supervision. The support for the project provided by the BMFSFJ ended on 31 August 2006. However, the database is being continued by the German Youth Institute. At present, approximately 235 research projects and pilot projects are accessible.
