Interculturality and the generations Period: 1 January 2006 – 31 December 2007 Starting from the differences that exist in intercultural competence and (previous) experience on the part of younger and older skilled workers, the project aims to analyse the scope for action and barriers to intercultural collaboration in companies, so that on this basis companies can be enabled to take measures to develop sustainable promotion of interethnic relationships. For this purpose, it is planned to study the intercultural and intergenerational integration process among younger and older skilled workers in ‘completely normal’ production conditions in three large industrial companies that have employees with a cross-generational and also interethnic workforce. On the basis of qualitative interviews with younger and older skilled workers, empirically based company analyses will be carried out. Targeted measures to promote intercultural collaboration in the company will then be developed on the basis of the results of the study, in collaboration with individuals from the companies. The process of implementing the measures will be scientifically supervised, and the project results will be documented in a practical handbook.
The IG Metall trade union is the cooperator in the project.
