The DJI survey Growing up in Germany (AID:A) investigates the life situation of children, adolescents and adults in the context of everyday development and action, especially in the family. As a panel study, AID:A also aims to examine development processes over the course of life. AID:A provides central information for social reporting and offers a broad database for application-oriented basic research.

For example, the following questions are addressed: How does the world of work affect the lifestyle and everyday life of couples/families? When are parenthood and the desire to have children realized: early, late or not at all? What kind of care do parents want for their children? And what services are available? What social risks are children and young people confronted with today?

To this end, the AID:A baseline survey (2009) used telephone interviews to collect a wealth of information on over 25,000 target persons aged up to 55. The same applies to the second wave of AID:A (2014), except that this time adults (over 32 years of age) were not surveyed. The two waves provide data that can be analyzed cross-sectionally, allow time series comparisons and also enable panel analyses.

Since April 2012, the data from AID:A (2009) has also been available to the interested specialist public via GESIS as „scientific use file“. Data on AID:A II can also be found at the Research Data Center.
