AID:A 2019 Subsample "Migration"
The current situation of children, adolescents, young adults, and their families in Germany is of great interest in many respects. This is especially true for the increasing share of people with a migration background. Against the backdrop of cultural diversity, a subsample of AID:A 2019 includes an oversampling of immigrants of the second, third, or higher generation. This subsample is available in a separate dataset [LINK FDZ].
Relevant topics therefore arise in all areas of the AID:A 2019 framework concept and concern, for example, aspects of participation in early childhood care and educational opportunities (Autorengruppe Bildungsberichterstattung, 2018; Kuhnt/Steinbach, 2017), the voluntary engagement of adolescents and young adults (Simonson/Vogel/Tesch-Römer 2016) or family life (Fasang/Huinink/Pollmann-Schult 2016; Kluczniok et al. 2013).
The DJI's integrated survey research is generated as a nationwide, representative sample with AID:A 2019. This also includes people with migration background of first, second or higher generations. However, these groups of people are "only" represented in AID:A 2019 with the proportion represented in the population, meaning that in-depth analyses of this subsample are only possible to a limited extent. The study, which is very large overall and rich in content, reaches the limits of its capacity, particularly when it comes to a further breakdown of personal characteristics (e.g. country of birth of children and (grand)parents, language background, own migration background, educational background), which could be of interest in this group.
To enable more robust results and detailed analyses specifically for this subgroup, a separate subsample to AID:A 2019 is generated (AID:A 2019 Mig+). More specifically, an additional sample of approximately 1,500 target persons with a particularly high probability of an migration background is recruited in 2019. Drawing procedures using preliminary information on the proportion of foreigners in the residential areas and the linguistic origin of the name components are used. Interviews based on the regular AID:A 2019 questionnaire are conducted in person and are also available in non-German languages via telephone interviews, if the German language skills are insufficient.
