Questions

It is known from the National Education Report that nearly half of those entering the vocational qualification system do so not directly, but rather through the ‘transition system’ that is situated in between the general school system and regular vocational training courses. However, little is known about the relationships between socio-demographic characteristics of the young people concerned, their desires and orientations, the training schemes they take part in and the paths they take through the transition system following their compulsory schooling. Little is also known about which paths through the transition system tend to be more successful and which paths tend instead to represent merely waiting lists or even dead ends and may lead the young people participating to break off their efforts to obtain education and vocational training.
