First wave

The first wave of the Children Longitudinal Study was surveyed in autumn 2002 with two representative samples:

  • Children in the last year of kindergarten (aged 5 to 6)
  • Second-year primary school children (aged 8 to 9)

Children from the older cohort and their mothers were surveyed in a personal interview. Information about the younger children was collected in proxy-interviews with their mothers. The fathers’ participation was optional in both cohorts. They were asked to fill out a questionnaire.

The first wave includes data of
    • 1.148 mothers with children aged 5 to 6 (including 8 single-parent fathers)
    • 1.042 mothers with children aged 8 to 9 (including 11 single-parent fathers)
    • 1.042 8 to 9 years old children
    • 1.136 fathers (678 fathers with children aged 5 to 6 and 658 fathers with children aged 8 to 9)
