The development and upbringing of children have been transformed by digitalization and digitality, presenting both risks and opportunities for children’s health and well-being. Understanding child development across Europe is limited by a lack of comparable longitudinal data. This paper introduces the Di-C-Well conceptual framework to guide future panel research on child well-being in the digital era. Di-C-Well integrates psychological, sociological, educational, and economic perspectives, examining child well-being across family, peer, institutional, and broader environmental contexts. The framework provides a theoretically grounded basis for cross-country research using harmonized measures, emphasizing the need for new data infrastructures focusing on children and adolescents throughout Europe.
