SUMMARY:Effective mental health and psychosocial support practices for the
integration of refugee adolescents in education settings
DESCRIPTION:Many young people who have been forcibly displaced have experie
nced considerable adversity and trauma before and during migration. School
s can play a crucial role in the postarrival and resettlement stages\, by
supporting young refugees to acclimatise to a new society. Indeed\, school
s are often the main societal institution in the receiving country with wh
ich refugee adolescents and their families interact. This presentation wil
l discuss the role of schools in supporting adolescent refugees during res
ettlement. &nbsp\;\nLecturer: Dr. Sadhbh Byrne is an Assistant Professor i
n the Department of Psychology\, Maynooth University. Prior to taking up t
his role in August 2022\, Sadhbh was Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the R
EFUGE-ED project\, based at Trinity Centre for Global Health. REFUGE-ED is
funded by the European Commission Horizon 2020 programme\, and seeks to i
dentify\, implement\, and evaluate existing evidence-based practices that
promote the inclusion\, mental health\, sense of belonging\, and academic
achievement of children and young people who are refugees\, asylum seekers
\, or separated minors.\nBitte beachten Sie: Vortrag und anschließende Di
 skussion werden auf Englisch stattfinden.
